What is Regenecyte, and is it the same as the stem cell therapy offered at Aloha Stem Cell?

P Written by: Phil Kim Medically reviewed by: Dr. Robert Aki, DPM Last medically reviewed: October 9, 2026

No. Regenecyte (HPC, Cord Blood) is an FDA-approved allogeneic product made from donated umbilical cord blood, used for blood stem cell transplantation in people with blood cancers and other serious conditions. Aloha Stem Cell uses your own autologous cells and platelets, injected into joints, tendons, and soft tissue. Regenecyte is not approved for, and is not used for, joint pain or wellness.

What Regenecyte is

Regenecyte is a stem cell product made from donated umbilical cord blood. It is allogeneic, meaning the cells come from a donor rather than from the patient, and it is approved for unrelated-donor blood stem cell transplantation. In plain terms, it is a transplant medicine that helps rebuild a patient's blood and immune system after treatment for conditions like leukemia and lymphoma.

The FDA's approval drew on the COBLT study, in which 76 percent of 324 patients achieved neutrophil recovery by day 42, together with published literature and CIBMTR registry data.

How it differs from the clinic's treatments

Aloha Stem Cell's treatments are autologous: your own cells and platelets, collected and prepared in the clinic, and delivered by guided injection into the joint, tendon, or ligament that needs support. Regenecyte is a donor-derived product infused into the bloodstream to replace the blood and immune system. The two share the words stem cell and almost nothing else.

Regenecyte is not approved for osteoarthritis, joint pain, back pain, or wellness, and no stem cell product is FDA-approved for any orthopedic condition as of fall 2026.

Why this matters when you read stem cell news

Most FDA stem cell approvals are for specific, serious diseases like blood cancers, not for the treatments marketed for joints. When you see an approval headline, ask which product, which condition, and whether it has anything to do with your situation. Our team is happy to help you read the news honestly.
