What should I avoid after a stem cell or PRP injection?

P Written by: Phil Kim Medically reviewed by: Dr. Robert Aki, DPM Last medically reviewed: October 9, 2026

After a stem cell or PRP injection, avoid strenuous activity, heavy lifting, and anti-inflammatory medications for the period your provider specifies, and protect the treated area. You receive written aftercare instructions before you leave.

The first 48 hours

Rest, ice, and protect the treated area. Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and prolonged standing or walking on the treated joint.

Medications to discuss

Some anti-inflammatory medications may interfere with the healing response. Your provider reviews your medications before treatment and tells you what to avoid and for how long.

The weeks after

Return to daily activity gradually, then build into guided rehabilitation. Improvement typically builds over weeks to months, and pushing too hard too soon can slow the process.
