Who should not get stem cell therapy?

P Written by: Phil Kim Medically reviewed by: Dr. Robert Aki, DPM Last medically reviewed: October 9, 2026

Stem cell therapy may not be appropriate for people with active infections, certain cancers, or health conditions that make a procedure risky, and it is not a fit for everyone. Your provider determines candidacy individually after a thorough evaluation.

Conditions that may rule it out

Active infection, pregnancy, and certain cancer histories are among the situations where regenerative therapy may not be appropriate. Your provider reviews your full history before any recommendation.

Advanced joint damage

Some joints are too far gone for regenerative therapy to be a reasonable option. In those cases, other treatments, including joint replacement, may serve you better, and we will say so honestly.

Unrealistic expectations

Stem cell therapy is not a cure and not a guarantee. If your goals do not match what the evidence supports, a responsible clinic tells you before you spend time or money.

The evaluation decides

There is no self-diagnosis shortcut. A consultation at Aloha Stem Cell includes a candid assessment of whether stem cell therapy may help you, or whether something else serves you better.
