Who may be a candidate for stem cell therapy?

P Written by: Phil Kim Medically reviewed by: Dr. Robert Aki, DPM Last medically reviewed: October 9, 2026

People may be candidates for stem cell therapy when they have joint, tendon, or soft tissue pain that has not responded to conservative care and when their overall health supports the procedure. The only way to know is a careful evaluation at the clinic.

The kind of condition that may fit

Stem cell therapy is most often discussed for conditions like knee osteoarthritis, cartilage wear, tendon injuries, and slow-healing soft tissue. It is generally considered after conservative options, such as physical therapy or activity modification, have not provided enough relief.

What the evaluation looks like

At Aloha Stem Cell, candidacy is decided one person at a time. Your provider reviews your history, your imaging, and your goals before any recommendation.

  • Your symptoms and how long you have had them
  • Past treatments and what helped
  • X-ray or MRI findings
  • Medications and overall health
  • Your goals and expectations

When it may not be appropriate

Some situations are better served by other care. Advanced joint damage, certain active infections, or health conditions that complicate a procedure may mean regenerative therapy is not the right step. Your provider will tell you honestly if that is the case.

The honest answer

There is no way to know whether you are a candidate without a conversation. A consultation at Aloha Stem Cell includes a candid assessment of whether stem cell therapy may help you, or whether something else serves you better.
