What are stem cells?

Stem cells are the body's repair cells: unspecialized cells that can develop into different cell types and help support tissue healing. In regenerative medicine, they are collected from the patient's own body and used to support areas that are struggling to heal.

The body's repair cells

Stem cells are unique because they can both renew themselves and develop into specialized cells. In adults, they are found throughout the body, including in bone marrow and fat tissue, where they help maintain and repair tissue over a lifetime.

Where they come from in treatment

At Aloha Stem Cell, the cells used in treatment come from your own body, usually from bone marrow or fat tissue. This is called an autologous approach, and it means there is no donor material involved.

What they do in the body

Stem cells support healing by releasing signaling proteins and helping to regulate the tissue environment around an injury. They do not instantly rebuild a joint; they support the conditions in which the body can repair itself over time.

Why this matters for your care

Understanding that the cells are your own helps explain why the treatment is personal, why immune risk is minimal, and why honest expectations matter. The cells support your body's own healing; they do not replace it.
